University of Denver

The mission of the University of Denver is to provide education of the highest quality. It does so through a blend of academic diversity, faculty scholarship, student-faculty interaction, and a very dynamic environment.

The largest independent university in the Rocky Mountain region, Denver enrolls 10,326 students from all 50 states and over 110 foreign countries. The University of Denver was founded in 1864 and is the oldest independent institution of higher education in the Rocky Mountain region.

A University of Denver education is distinguished by its emphasis on values, racial and cultural diversity, and global perspective. The University offers bachelor's degrees in more than 100 areas and graduate degrees in more than 150 areas, representing a full range of disciplines in the arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business and the professions. Denver features a student-faculty ratio of 13:1. Denver's Core Curriculum, the foundation of undergraduate studies, has been named by the National Endowment for the Humanities as a model program. The University also has achieved national recognition for its graduate and professional programs and is ranked among the top universities nationwide.

Campus & City of Denver: The 125-acre University Park campus is just eight miles from downtown Denver in a residential neighborhood. The metro area offers a quality of life not often found in other locations. It contains the state capital, skiing, state parks, national forests, and dozens of museums. Denver enjoys a mild, dry climate with 310 days of sunshine a year. The population has a tremendous enthusiasm for sports and the outdoors, with the Rocky Mountains providing tremendous opportunities for recreation. In addition to a full range of sports at Denver, there are pro teams in the Colorado Avalanche, Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Rapids, Colorado Crush and Colorado Mammoth.

Academics: Excellence in teaching is a central focus, reflected in a nationally honored curriculum, outstanding faculty, and small classes. More than half of the classes enroll 29 or fewer students.

Student Services: Denver's Student Services offers comprehensive personal, academic, and career counseling, mentoring, internships, recruiting, and an extensive career library. In a recent survey, more than 92% of Denver's bachelor's graduates were successfully placed eight months after graduation, as were 96% of master's and doctoral graduates.

Students: 52% are women, 48% are men. There are 26 honor societies and 76 student organizations on campus, including fraternities, sororities, sports clubs, student government, newspaper, yearbook and social, religious, service and academic groups.
